Sight & Sound Theatres Gets a New Wind-Vented Roof System

Sight & Sound is one of our favorite clients. We are proud of the relationship that has been developed with the entire Sight & Sound team.
When they contacted us about their roof, we jumped at the opportunity to help.
Challenges
The old, ballasted roof acted as a fantastic sound insulator from rain and other outside noises -replicating that would prove difficult.
Additionally, a complete tear-off was not an option due to the amount of wiring and electronics that would be exposed. Sight & Sound Theatre houses enough cable to circle the entire earth more than twice!
This project had a few other unique challenges. It took diligent testing and multiple iterations to find the right solution.

Solution: The 2001 Wind-Vented™ System
The 2001 Wind-Vented System was put in place. Additionally, the roof has three separate systems to ensure sound deadening and leak prevention, but the wind venting system is the crown jewel and holds everything in place.
How a Wind-Vented Roof Works
Wind venting has been around for a while. They are a popular option along the coasts where high winds are common.
The system uses strategically placed vents that create a vacuum, holding the roofing membrane in place. A wind-vented roof will remain in place when other roofs blow off. The vents also ensure that the building won’t be exposed to the elements during a violent storm.
